Report Snippet: Events

Coming soon on the Polit site: a rearrangement of how SCA events are handled internally.  It won’t have any effect on the display, which I’m fairly happy with, but it will make it possible for other officers (the B&B mainly) to edit events without needing database access.  This is my #1 priority on the Polit site, but mundane work may trump it in the near future.  In the mean time, make sure I have the latest info about every event and I’ll update it manually.

Report Snippet: Blogs

As can be seen here, I’ve done the basics to set up blogs for all the baronial officers.  So far the Seneschal has signed up and started using his blog, and the List Keeper, B&B and deputy Seneschal are set up and ready to go.  I’m hoping a few links on the Polit site will get people looking back here for the latest stuff, and more people will take up the opportunity to publish their inane blather and cat pictures vitally important news to the world.

Summarised form of instructions on getting your own officer’s blog: send me your preferred email address and tell me who you are (though I probably know already if the Contacts page on the Polit site is up to date).  Sign in when you get the automated email.  Delete the “Hello World” entry and its automatic comment (Site Admin | Manage | Posts).  Edit your “About” page (Site Admin | Manage | Pages).  Make sure your time zone is set to +10 (shortly to be +11) (Site Admin | Options | Date and Time) and your theme is set to XenoFlurf (Site Admin | Presentation | Themes) — but I’ll try to automate that process to save you the trouble.  Get to and do some semi-regular blogging.  Tell all your friends fellow officers.  That’s it!

So You Want To Get Blogging

The Interweb is a clever thingy. With a moment’s effort to install (and infinite time to tweak, twiddle and adjust) I can put some powerful blogging software up on a site, and then anyone can sign up, log in and speak out. If you’re a member of either or both of the two eligible groups, a Politarchopolis baronial officer or just a friend of mine, that’s all you need to join in. Crispin “Crunch” Harris has already done it, as has Baronial Seneschal Owain Cantor ap Hughe. Why not be one of the super l33t cool kidz too?

The first thing you’ll need to do is read the articles on personal.flurf.net to tell you what this is for and how you can get involved. They’re aimed at friends as well as officers (perhaps you qualify under both headings!) so read with that in mind. There will be articles here at /hierophant specifically aimed at officers, talking about stuff like reporting requirements. I’ll provide pointers here to other articles so you won’t miss anything if you just follow this blog; no sense in making it painful.
