Odd Lots
Idea cribbed from jeff_duntemann: a big splodge of random bits that don’t necessarily deserve a whole LJ post all to themselves.
- Speaking of Jeff: he mentioned me on his LJ and on Contra, his mirrored blog, talking about Boa Constructor, the cross-platform Python RAD IDE. I hope to go back to it when I get a chance and maybe do up a list of the things I’d fix, possibly in Berenstein Bears tutorial format.
- Speaking of mirrored blogs: I’ll be setting up fLog again; that’s my own personal blog, which will be on personal.flurf.net, my bloggy subdomain. I plan to copy everything here over there. I was agonising over how to separate out the personal stuff, some of which I don’t necessarily want closely associated with my real name, from the general filks, rants and mindless link propagation. I think what I’ll actually do is retroactively friend-lock the stuff I wouldn’t want to let out, and leave it at that.
- Speaking of my web domains: don’t bother checking them out right now, because my hosting provider is offline while they move their entire load of hardware across town to a new location. They’ve provided plenty of warning and a regularly updated status report, so I’m not unhappy. If you need to contact me, all flurf.net and poetrysoftware.com.au email addresses will also be down, but my phone number remains 0407-468-244 so you can SMS me, or you can comment here on LJ and I’ll check it every now and then when I’m checking my friends page. It’ll all be fixed in a few hours; I’m sure you’ll cope.
- Speaking of LJ friends: congratulations to razorgirl_au for the ultimate in culturejamming: she got a photo of Wee Johnny Howard signed, by the grate man himself, with the text “Crumbs, chief!”. Sadly she couldn’t get one of Bush saying “Shush, Penfold”. Still, if she wants to sell it on EBay, I’m sure there are plenty of DM fans who’ll rush to bid! I’ll link to a photo when she gets around to scanning it.
- Speaking of scanners: in an effort to tidy up our place, I’m hoping to get rid of some old hardware, including an A4 flatbed scanner with a parallel port cable. No idea if it still works, since I last tested it last century. Anyone want to take it away for the princely sum of not-a-sausage?
- Speaking of cleaning: we tidied up our green shed on Sunday, after brunch. It took ages and nearly killed us, but it’s looking much better. We plan to move the stuff we’re storing for basal_surge and stellar_muddle into the main part of the shed and use the smaller atrium as a toolshed, leaving my current rickety old tool shed free to become a second chicken run.
- Speaking of chickens: our chooks have been laying like nobody’s business, so I advertised some eggs for sale at work yesterday, and got rid of them in no time. We have three left! Plus one enormous one that must be at least triplets. But they’re astonishingly productive birdies, so the supply will be replenished with no trouble, and I think we might even be able to get some more in. Originally we got them to do the grunt-work of preparing the ground in parts of our yard for planting, so the eggs are a cost-free bonus.
- Speaking of fecundity: the Beloved is still gestating. She’s due in early November, and at this rate we’re expecting octuplets. Everyone at the wedding and the post-wedding brunch was most impressed with her roundness, as well as her scrummyness in her lovely red dress. What can I say - I married well!
- Speaking of the wedding et al: I have photos; I’ll post them later. Right now I should do more work.
