I can add "sex" as a field in canon_person, but for now it shouldn't be hard to calculate correct titles in the form "Master/Mistress" or "Lord/Lady".

Regarding landed barons: all you need to do is put their "reigns" into the database, exactly as you do for kings and queens. That's why the list of realms on the Reign page in Gratian isn't limited to kingdoms. Once you start doing that, I'll make the change to the site to only display relevant ones on the Reigns page, to reduce clutter.

I'm hoping there won't be that many updates that we need an update gratian funtionality.
Besides, copying the file into the directory is not exactly difficult.

OK; I've fixed the null awards bug and the problems with the reigns on the CL site itself. I've also just added "search by date" as one of the options to the Events search function: now, if you search for 2/1992, for example, it will find the events in February 1992 and no others. I'll zip the new .exe and email it; let me know if you don't get it.

Right: I've fixed the "null award" bug. Frankly, I can't explain why it ever worked! I deleted a crucial letter ("R", in case you're interested) from a certain function, and as a result it simply didn't have the ability to add new awards. At all. Weird.

I've also fixed, on my local copy, the sort order for the reigns list, and added "preceded by" and "succeeded by" info, which is the Next/Previous Reign button you asked for in effect. I'll do a few more fixes then upload the changes. I think we need some sort of update functionality so you can get your copies up to date, but that may take a little fiddling.

Nah, to me a bug is something that is broken or severely broken. eg what happens if I change a branch's status, or if I pushed upload last week. None of these stop me using gratian, none of these produce unexpected results. Some are moderate or minor user interface flaws, others are just the usual ideas of things can always be better. Except webpage reign sorting - if that isn't what you told it to do deliberately, then maybe that counts as a bug.

"Lone sovereigns: not sure why we need this. All awards are given by both sovereigns. In the Lochac Principality days, many were given by a King and Queen who were asleep in bed half a world away when court was on. Will discuss further."
People remember the event by the fact that "only Yolande was there". It's part of what distinguishes one William Marshall (or Rowany yule or whatever) from annother. I don't object to the award being listed as granted by both, maybe if some text on the event page mentions that only one attended, I'll stop getting fix me messages, and people can use those identifying feature of only one sovereign present. P1 I guess.

Did I make clear that the webpage text doesn't have to be edited in gratian (although that appeals), I was just making a punt that whatever you've got isn't easy to use if you haven't let me loose on it instantly. And while I probably can manage to edit whatever templated goobeldygook you have, with a bit of help, there's no guarantees about the next canon, and you don't want to be seperating the job really do you? (or doing it yourself for ever)

Bah! As I explained to Bethan, my ego is no longer attached to this project. Call it a bug report or a suggestion for enhancement; I don't mind. In fact, refer to it as That Appalling Piece Of Bug-Ridden Useless Crap I Have To Use Because I Didn't Duck Fast Enough, if you like. I promise not to be offended. Really!

These look like good suggestions. Let me triage them slightly, off the top of my head:

* Search results indicator: trickier than it sounds, since it really only does a "find next" rather than a "find all and jump to first result". I could make it calculate it in the background, though, so call it Priority 2, Difficulty 2 (where each figure is out of 5, with 5 being highest priority and difficulty).

* Event date search: I thought it already did this! The search functionality is modular, so this is dead easy. P3 D1.

* Event merge: will need to look into this.

* Normalised spelling: can be done as a one-off fix followed by an automated feature when you save a new person record. P4 D2.

* Branch status improvements: will require a little fiddling, and may not be as flexible as that, but I can improve on the status quo. P2 D3.

* Lone sovereigns: not sure why we need this. All awards are given by both sovereigns. In the Lochac Principality days, many were given by a King and Queen who were asleep in bed half a world away when court was on. Will discuss further.

* Heraldic registration info: is already on the backburner as a feature, with tables and some support in Gratian (that's why it downloads the O&A, see?) but got bumped from the list long ago. P1 D4.

* Member list within Gratian: doable as part of a wider "summary screen" feature. P1 D4.

* Notes field: should be a general feature, not just for person records but for everything. Can throw in the email/website/blog option while I'm at it but leave it disabled on the actual site, just for now. P3 D1.

* Previous/next reign: d'oh! Should have been in there years ago! P4 D1.

* Fix reign sorting: I noticed that too. Clearly a bug, the way it is currently. P4 D1.

* Static pages editing: will need to give it some thought, but it should be relatively simple in fact because of how I do the templating on the site. P4 D2.

Fixing some show-stopper bugs would also be a good thing...
